Dear in-coming 5th-grade parents,

One of the things that is great about Oakdale is our band program directed by Mr. Scott!  We are unique in that every 5th grader at Oakdale is placed in band.  After 5th grade, students then choose whether they continue in band or a different elective class.

We did not get to test the students before the COVID break to see which instrument fits them the best.  The reason this is important is that the band students are split into two different classes:  woodwind or brass/percussion.  We need to know these splits in order to make the schedule for the fall for 5th-grade students.

Here is how we are going to accomplish this on the week of July 20-24th:

1.  Before the in-person "test", all incoming 5th graders need to complete the Google Form.  It has information, a video, an MP3 to listen to, and a quiz (of sorts).

2.  All incoming 5th graders need to sign up for a time in July to "test" with Mr. Scott. Mr. Scott will be wearing a mask when he's not demonstrating the instruments and will have the alcohol-based sanitizer for the mouthpieces.  Each student will keep the reed they use, and Mr. Scott will be the only one holding the instrument.  Students can come in through the outside door on the NorthWest side of the band room and go out through the front of the auditorium.  Parents, please drop them off on the northwest side and then drive around to the front of the auditorium to pick them up.  Contact Mr. Scott or Mrs. Willhoite if you have any questions ( or
