Spelling Bee finalists

Dear Rocket Community,

Congratulations to all of the Oakdale Spelling Bee finalists.  Sam Rhin is our spelling bee champion!

This cold is no joke. I heard from some that they didn’t get the notifications on Tuesday. First, I apologize for the late notice and the subsequent change. That is not how we intend to conduct school business. We will always work to make those calls as early as possible. Second, information on school closings will happen in three places. We will push out notifications on our TeacherEase platform, we will post on the Oakdale App, and we will list the closing / changes on all of the local news stations. Each local news station also provides that information on their respective apps. If you don’t have either the TeacherEase or the Oakdale app, the instructions for downloading are here:

Tuesday was a roller coaster. While we started with the stressful weather issues, we finished with a solid “Yes” on the bond election. Thank you for always being there to support our kids, this district, and this community. We will start next week on project scheduling, and we hope to sell bonds in early May.

One of the larger projects is the remodel of the cafeteria and the front of the building. While the area in the front of the building can progress mostly during the school year, the cafeteria space requires a summer to start and finish. The typical 11 week summer will be a very tight window; therefore, we have developed a plan to capture a few more weeks. The project will not begin until the summer of 2025, so the 2024 - 2025 school year will begin on August 8, 2024. That is a week earlier than typical. The last day of school for that year will be May 9, 2025. The 2025 - 2026 school year will begin a week later than usual. This schedule will give us at least two additional weeks to complete the cafeteria.

That means this upcoming summer will be shorter than you are accustomed to; however, the following summer will be two weeks longer. We believe it is better to schedule the additional time and allow families to plan rather than notify the community late in the summer when the project is delayed. The 2024 - 2025 Academic Calendar can be found here.

Stay warm this weekend,

Proud to be a Rocket
