Falcons & worms & bats, OH MY! This week, 7th, 5th, and 4th grade students explored different creatures and critters! As an exciting ending to their novel unit on My Side of the Mountain, Mrs. Rihn’s seventh grade classes enjoyed a visit from falconers of the Oklahoma Falconers Association. They shared their immense knowledge of the field of falconry, and students were able to see a Harris's hawk and a Red-Tailed hawk up close! In 5th grade, it was Harry Potter Week, and giant worms were found in the Forbidden Forest! Mrs. Pitts’ 5th grade science students observed worms and the way they moved under damp napkins or dark paper. Next, they tested if worms preferred damp or dry places, and they learned how important these wriggly decomposers are to the soil. Our 4th grade science classes spent the week learning about bats and the special features they have developed for survival! The students used their senses in the dark like bats use echolocation, compared their physical features to bats, and learned about bat habitats and conservation efforts. #ProudToBeARocket
